Working with Slide Masters

You may want to alter every slide in your presentation in a consistent way. For example, you may want to add a logo on each slide. If you have a lot of slides in your presentation, the simplest way to make this change is to alter the master.

To view the master slide for your presentation, go to the View tab and select Slide Master.

When you select Slide Master, you will notice a new tool bar appear. In the thumbnails there are different slide types. The first slide in the view is the master title slide that will affect your first slide. The other options are master slides that affect all remaining slides. Changes you make to any of those will affect every other slide in this presentation.

For example, you could go to the Insert tab and select Picture. You could then add your logo, size and place it where it should appear on every slide. Click outside the picture when you are done. Once you close your Master View, you will see that logo in the same position on every slide. You could also choose to Edit Theme, modify the Background, and alter the slide Size as well. Any changes made in these categories will affect all future slides.

You could also choose to edit a particular slide type layout. If you hover over the different slide types from the thumbnail view, you will see the name of the slide and where it is used in your presentation, if at all. You may see a slide that is used more than once and want to edit the layout of those particular slides simultaneously.

If you click on a layout slide, you could customize its layout. For instance, you could move title or subtitle boxes. Click outside the boxes once your moves are complete then click Close Master View. All your slides of that type will be affected. If you insert any future slides of that type they will show the new changes for this presentation.

You can also edit the Notes Master.  Selecting Notes Master from the View tab brings up a new tool bar and options.

You can change the size of the notes box, slide miniature, page setup, placeholders and more. Clicking Close Master View brings you back to your presentation.

You can also make changes to the Handout Master from the View tab as well. Once you make your master changes, be sure to save your presentation to secure them.
