Learning Target: I can use patterns to multiply and divide by powers of 10.

Multiply and Divide by Powers of 10

When multiplying by a power of ten, move the decimal point

to the right the same number of places as in the exponent.

0.0009 × 101 =  0.009
0.0009 ×
102  =  0.09
0.0009 ×
103  =  0.9
0.0009 ×
104  =  9

When dividing by a power of ten, move the decimal point

to the left the same number of places as in the exponent.

78 ÷ 101 =  7.8
78 ÷
102 =  0.78
78 ÷
103 =  0.078
78 ÷
104 =  0.0078
