Volume is measured using cubic units.

A cube measuring 1 unit on each edge has a volume of 1 cubic unit.

  Volume = 1 unit

Formulas for Volume

We often use formulas to find the volumes of solid shapes.

Volume of a Cube

Volume = side x side x side

V = s3

Volume of a Rectangular Prism

Volume = length x width x height

V = l w h

or

Volume = Base x height   (the base is equivalent to the length times the width)

V = B h
