The Liberty Bell

1     There is a huge bell that is no longer rung. It cracked the first time it chimed. It was fixed, but has cracked many times since then. The last time it was rung was in 1846. At that time, it was used to remember and honor George Washington's birthday. It has not made a sound since.

2     What makes this bell so special? It was made out of metal a long time ago. It was made in 1751 to celebrate the 50 year birthday of the Pennsylvania colony.  A verse from the Bible is stamped on the bell. It says to "Proclaim Liberty" to all the land. The bell is called the Liberty Bell.

3      The Liberty Bell hung from a great Hall from a wooden beam.  Tradition tells us that it was rung before the first reading of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Today, many people go to see the big bell. It is special to see this bit of history. It reminds people of the freedom in America.
