Main Idea

The main idea of a story is what it is mostly about.

As you read each story, think about the main idea.  Think about what the writer is mainly trying to say and why.  Then choose the answer that tells the main idea of what you have read.

At the Store

Starla works in a store.  She is a cashier.  She helps people make their purchases.  Some customers change their minds about what they have bought.  If the customer has a receipt, Starla gives the customer a refund.  Starla likes her job.  She likes the customers and her co-workers too.

Carla’s Budget

There are other costs too. When she keeps her budget, Carla can save $250 each month in a savings account.

Sara’s Son

Yesterday, Sara’s son fell off his bike.  He cut his knee.  Sara washed the cut.  She put a band-aid on his knee.  She gave him a kiss.  Her son was brave.  He got back on his bike and rode again.
