At the Interview
AT THE INTERVIEW: Shake hands, smile, look at your interviewer, and listen.
- Shake hands with your interviewer before and after the interview (unless you know that your interviewer does not shake hands for cultural or religious reasons).
- Smile: People are naturally attracted to people with upbeat personalities. A smile tells the interviewer that you’re open, positive, and would contribute to a positive work environment.
- Look your interviewer in the eye throughout the interview. Don’t stare, but make frequent eye contact.
- Listen to your interviewer. If you do not fully understand a question, ask your interviewer to repeat it. Early in the meeting, try to get the interviewer to describe the job and its requirements so you can adapt your responses accordingly.
NOTE: Bring an information sheet with contact information of your references and former employers.
