After the Interview
AFTER THE INTERVIEW:
- Shake hands with your interviewer(s)
- Ask your prospective employer when you should expect to hear about the hiring decision. If you don’t hear back by the stated decision date, feel free to call/inquire two or three days later. Be sure to mention that you were told that a decision would be made by (mention the date) and you are calling to find out the status of the position. Ask when/if you should call again. NOTE: Don’t appear annoyed and don’t keep calling back.
- Ask for a business card.
- Send a thank-you note to your interviewer(s). This shows that you are truly interested in the job, and that you are thoughtful. It also helps ensure that your prospective employer is once again reminded of you and the interview. In your note, thank the employer for the interview and reiterate your interest in the position. Provide your contact information and sign the note with your first and last name. The note should be no longer than one page.
